Trauma Informed Psychotherapy
How do I know if I may be experiencing long-term symptoms of developmental trauma or neglect?
The field of trauma treatment has exploded in the past 10 years, as we learn more about the impact of both developmental and individual incidents of trauma on physical and mental health. Trauma therapy is a form of psychotherapy (talk therapy) designed to manage the impact of traumatic events on people's lives. Trauma therapy helps individuals process traumatic events and the lasting experience of trauma that may follow those events.
Trauma can include some of the following situations:
Early childhood abuse or neglect
Sexual abuse or assault
Medical trauma
Injuries, including traumatic brain injuries
Emotional or psychological abuse
Traumatic grief
Bullying (in school or workplace)
Witnessing trauma
Secondary trauma
Domestic violence
Physical assault or attack
Natural or man-made disasters
The trauma treatment we offer may include mindfulness techniques, grounding exercises, body and breath awareness, hypnosis or guided relaxation to help process trauma held in the body.
